Logo Design Process – Mark Colombus Wedding Photography

Mark Colombus Wedding Photography Logo

Dot Design worked with Mark Colombus a few months back to create a new identity design for his wedding photography business.
Mark offers a wedding package of creative reportage, he attends the wedding all day from the bridal preparations until after the first dance. This ensures that nothing is missed and there is a range of memories of the whole day for years to come.
Mark considers it very important to get to know each couple before the wedding day, and offers a pre-wedding shoot free of charge with his wedding photography packages.
After the wedding images are available to view in an online gallery, usually within 3 weeks of the wedding. The high resolution images are then presented on personally designed DVD’s.
“I feel it’s very important to be there for the whole time to truly capture to full story of their day. Artistically I have a unique ability to capture creative, quirky shots that complement the specified outline of what each particular couple is after from their wedding.”
As always with this process Dot Design asked the client to fill out a questionnaire that helps get under the skin of the business.
Covering areas such as target market, identifying competitors and if the client had any specific ideas that they wanted explored initially.
Below shows some of the initial design work and then the ongoing development until final solution was arrived at:

    Another interesting post Gareth!
Shame they didn’t plump with concept board 1, shows a lot of fun and wit.

  2. I actually prefer “Initial Logo Design Concept No: 3” as it’s simple and looks more professional. In my opinion, the final version is way too complicated, and the “photo-corners” now looks like some kind of picture frame.
That said, I think concept No.3 is a great design! Was the final version your choice or the clients?
I hope you don’t mind my honest opinion Gareth 🙂

  3. @Eddie – Thanks for stopping by Eddie, always appreciate honest comments and feedback.
Design is so subjective which is what makes it all the more interesting to discuss other designers views and preferences.
@Andrew – Always good to see you here Andrew and thanks for your professional opinion.
After discussion with the client logo design 3 was the preferred route to explore. It was identified that the design needed to have a more classic and decorative feel to it hence the introduction of more decorative elements and a change of the main typeface.
As I said before its always great to hear other designers points of view, thanks for popping in!

  4. Nice final logo 🙂 and also other great concepts.
As for preference, I really like Concept 4, which probably has the least amount of ‘wedding’ in the logo. Perhaps the M could have been subtly changed to signify lapels on a wedding suit, or alluded to a buttonhole flower.
That said, the final logo is great – always good to see how it’s been refined and developed from initial versions.

  5. I liked the first one when the “M” is a bride and groom
