Spotted this story over at Creative Review Blog and had to share it. It features a great re-invention of the flip book, using balloons and a popper on a 200 metre rail. Directed by Dulcidio Caldeira at ParanoidBR this stop-motion ad for MTV, used the action of bursting balloons to create a brand new style of flip-book.
“To achieve a moving picture effect, 10 balloons had to be popped per second, or 600 balloons per minute,” Caldeira says. “It took nearly 24 straight hours to shoot the multiple takes needed.”
Certainly inventive and memorable it brings a whole new dimension to the ancient idea of the flip book.
